Welcome to Sonora High School!

As the Assistant Principal overseeing Athletics and Activities, I am excited and honored to serve the Raider community. My educational philosophy is grounded in the belief that every student deserves to feel known, challenged, supported and connected. Schools have the greatest impact when we create opportunities for students to discover their strengths, build meaningful relationships and develop confidence both inside and outside the classroom.

What you can expect from me is visible leadership, open communication, and a commitment to creating positive experiences for all students. I believe in leading with integrity, building strong partnerships and ensuring students have access to opportunities that help them grow academically, socially and personally.

What makes Sonora special is our commitment to excellence while maintaining a strong sense of community. Sonora values academics, athletics, activities, service and student involvement, creating an environment where students are encouraged to explore their interests and reach their full potential.

Families are essential partners in this work. I encourage you to stay connected, attend events, celebrate student successes, ask questions and communicate openly with our team. Together, we can create an experience where every student feels supported, inspired, and empowered to thrive.

Professional Biography

Mrs. Carton's educational philosophy is grounded in the belief that every student deserves to feel known, challenged, supported, and connected. She believes schools have the greatest impact when they create opportunities for students to discover their strengths, build lasting relationships, and develop the confidence to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Mrs. Carton earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a minor in Education from the University of California, Irvine, a Master of Education in Higher and Postsecondary Education from Arizona State University, a Single Subject Teaching Credential from California State University, Long Beach, and later returned to UC Irvine to earn her Administrative Services Credential.

Her career in education began at Arizona State University, where she served as a Business Operations Manager before returning to California and joining the Fullerton Joint Union High School District as a Senior Records Clerk. In that role, she developed a strong understanding of school operations and family engagement. She later transitioned into the classroom, teaching all levels of Spanish, including Traditional Spanish, Spanish for Spanish Speakers, and Advanced Placement Spanish. Throughout her career, she has embraced numerous leadership opportunities, serving as a Club Advisor, Link Crew Coordinator, Student Intervention Team member, Guiding Coalition member, and World Languages Department Chair.

Mrs. Carton chose education because she experienced firsthand the transformative impact that dedicated educators can have on a student's life. The teachers who believed in her helped expand what she believed was possible and inspired her to pursue a career dedicated to serving others. At Sonora High School, she is committed to leading with integrity, building strong partnerships with students, families, and staff, and creating an environment where every Raider feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
