The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
The International Baccalaureate Program develops inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through education that builds intercultural understanding and respect.

Dear Community,
Welcome to Sonora High School’s IB Program, where we are committed to fostering excellence and opportunity for all students. As the coordinator since 2017, it is my honor to lead this program that prioritizes academic excellence, equity, and the overall well-being of every student.
Sometimes referred to as a “hidden gem”, Sonora High School is a comprehensive public school that has a unique approach to student development and support. At Sonora High School, our dedicated team of AP and IB educators work collaboratively to ensure that students are capable of achieving at the highest levels. What makes Sonora different from other schools? Our students and our staff.
Last year, we made history with 49 out of our 55 Diploma students earning the Internal Baccalaureate Diploma. Students from the Class of 2025 were admitted to every UC and CSU campus, Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Chapman, USC, Duke, Notre Dame, and a variety of other excellent institutions.
Most importantly, they left Sonora as scholars of the highest order, ready to take on this next chapter armed with an IB education.
Thank you for your consideration of our school, and program. We are confident of our ability to achieve great things together!
Warm regards,
Shannon Appenrodt
